Why Regular Eye Exams Matter
Updated October 4, 2025
How often should you test?
Most adults do well with an eye exam every 1–2 years. Children, seniors, and people with diabetes or high screen time may need more frequent checks.
What happens during an exam?
Expect a history review, vision tests for distance and near, refraction for lens power, and eye‑health screening. Your practitioner may dilate pupils or use imaging depending on need.
Warning signs to book sooner
Sudden blur or double vision, flashes/floaters, eye pain, redness, or headaches that persist should be checked promptly.
Tips to make the most of your visit
Bring current glasses and prescriptions, list medications, note symptoms, and share work/screen habits to personalize advice.
